Community Standards
Last updated on Feb 10, 2022
Our Community is our top priority
These Community Standards establish a shared standard for professional behavior for all participants of the Popless Platform. The success of the Popless Network and Community is predicated on the professional behavior of all the parties involved.
We’ve established these Community Standards to help guide behavior and codify the values that underpin our global community. This is a living document, as we’re constantly refining our approach to meet the needs of our community. But these five standards—safety, security, fairness, authenticity, and reliability—remain central pillars in our efforts to help ensure safety and foster belonging. We’re always working to make sure they’re upheld and enforced.
These Community Standards are part of Popless’s Code of Conduct, Terms of Service, and Popless’s Additional Terms for Hosts. Participants of the Popless network, especially Guests, Hosts, Connectors, and Referrers are subsequently referred to as “Users”. Community Members Members who violate these Community Standards may, at Popless’s sole discretion, be temporarily or permanently barred from the Popless Platform, depending on the severity of the misconduct, and report to relevant authorities at our discretion. Popless will update these Community Standards from time to time, though there may be unforeseen situations leading to account deactivation not explicitly listed in this policy.
Trust
Users of the Popless Platform are expected to communicate respectfully and in good faith.
Professionalism and Quality: Additionally, Guests should expect to engage with Hosts in Sessions that adequately represent their Listing. Popless may temporarily or permanently deactivate accounts associated with Host that receive reviews, ratings, or complaints regarding a lack of professionalism, or quality.
Safety
Your Popless Session begins the moment you embrace adventure. That’s only possible when you trust this community and feel safe. As a result, we require that you refrain from endangering or threatening anyone.
Harming yourself or others: You should not commit physical or sexual assault, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, domestic violence, robbery, human trafficking, other acts of violence, or hold anyone against their will. Members of dangerous organizations, including terrorists, organized criminals, and violent racist groups, are not welcome in this community. Popless is committed to working with law enforcement as appropriate and responding to valid law enforcement requests. We take suicide, self-injury, eating disorders, and hard drug abuse extremely seriously and work to help people in crisis.
Threatening anyone: You should not convey an intent to harm anyone by your words or physical actions. We also take threats of self-harm as seriously as we do actions and may intervene if we become aware of a threat.
Creating hazardous situations: You should not keep unsecured weapons, disease risks, or dangerous animals in your listing, nor should you create conditions that increase the likelihood of a fire or impede escape in the event of an emergency.
Security
Our Popless community members share their experiences, insights, and learnings. Whether you’re hosting a Session or experiencing a host’s Session as a guest, you should trust that you will feel secure. We ask you to respect others’ property, information, and personal belongings.
Theft, vandalism, or extortion: You should not take property that isn’t yours, use someone’s property without their permission, copy others’ keys or identity documents, damage others’ property, remain in listings after a Session is concluded, or threaten anyone with bad ratings or any other penalty or harm to obtain compensation or other benefits.
Spam, phishing, or fraud: You should not make transactions outside of Popless’s payments system; commit booking fraud, credit card fraud, or launder money; attempt to drive traffic to other sites or market unrelated products; divert payments meant for others; abuse our referrals system; or make false claims against other members of the community.
Violating others’ privacy or intellectual property rights: You should not spy on other people; cameras are not allowed in your listing unless they are previously disclosed and visible. You should not access others’ accounts without authorization or violate others’ privacy, copyrights, or trademarks.
Fairness
The global Popless community is as diverse, unique, and vibrant as the world around us. Fairness is what holds us together, what makes it possible for us to trust one another, integrate seamlessly within communities, and feel as if can we can truly belong.
Discriminatory behavior or hate speech: Popless maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding all forms of discrimination, harassment, or abuse. You should treat everyone with respect in every interaction. So, you should follow all applicable laws and not treat others differently because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, disability, or serious diseases. Similarly, insulting others on these bases is not allowed.
You can find Popless’s Nondiscrimination Policy here.Bullying or harassing others: You should not share personal information to shame or blackmail others, target others with unwanted behavior, defame others, or violate our review and content standards. For purposes of this policy, harassment is any verbal or physical conduct designed to threaten, intimidate, or coerce another User on the Popless Platform. The following examples of harassment are intended to be guidelines and are not exclusive when determining whether there has been a violation of this policy:
(a) Verbal harassment includes comments that are offensive or unwelcome regarding a person's national origin, race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, appearance, disability, gender identity or expression, marital status or other protected status, including epithets, slurs and negative stereotyping.
(b) Nonverbal harassment includes distribution, display, or discussion of any written or graphic material that ridicules, denigrates, insults, belittles, or shows hostility, aversion, or disrespect toward an individual or group because of national origin, race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, pregnancy, appearance, disability, sexual identity, marital status or other protected status.
You can find Popless’s policy on Combatting hate, harassment, and discrimination here.
Disturbing the surrounding community: You should not disturb common spaces, treat neighbors as “front desk staff,” create a pervasive nuisance for those around you, or persistently fail to respond to neighbor or community concerns.
Reviews and Ratings: Reviews and ratings are an opportunity for both Guests and Hosts to build a positive reputation on the Popless Platform. Reviews and ratings should be truthful, clear, fact-based, and helpful to both the recipient and the wider Popless community. Popless reserves the right to remove reviews that violate these review guidelines. Users can only write a review or provide a rating after a Session is completed. Reviews and ratings may be available to other Guests viewing a Host’s Listing.
Authenticity
Your Popless Sessions should be full of delightful moments and surprising adventures. Since our community is built on trust, authenticity is essential—it requires a balance of shared expectations, honest interactions, and accurate details. Popless expects all Users to present themselves truthfully and accurately and may permanently deactivate any account associated with fraudulent activity.
Misrepresenting yourself: You should not provide a false name or date of birth, maintain duplicate accounts, impersonate any person or entity (including creating an account under a fake or borrowed name), or create an account if you’re under 18. All information you provide must be true, accurate, and complete. You agree to provide Popless with true, accurate, and complete profile information and to promptly update that information as it changes. Popless or a third-party background check service provider may verify information provided by or about a User. If requested, Users must assist Popless or such third-party in the verification process.
Misrepresenting your Session: You should not provide inaccurate Session information, have incorrect availability, mislead people about the type, nature, or details of your listing, substitute one listing for another, set up fake or fraudulent listings, leave fraudulent reviews, engage in deceptive pricing, or fail to disclose hazards and habitability issues.
Information Misrepresentation: Work products must not include any misrepresentation or fraudulent data. Hosts are required to disclose any sources used in Sessions in accordance with generally accepted research practices (i.e., proactively cite primary or secondary information sources that are not their own) as a matter of general practice and upon request from Hosts or Popless.
Sessions that are merely transactions: Popless began as a way to allow people to share experiences, learnings, and insights. Though Popless has grown since the early days, and hosting Sessions has expanded around the world, we still expect that every listing is not just a transaction, but a place for others to belong.
Reliability
Every Popless Session is unique and each detail is specific to a host and their guests. Since our community makes commitments based on these details, we have to be able to trust each other’s reliability—whether it be in timely communication, the condition of the Session, or in the expectations we set.
Providing unreliable conferences: You should not provide or use conference services that are unreliable. You should not use Conferences services that are not legitimate, or are not available for the duration of the Session.
Breaking commitments: Absent extenuating circumstances, you should not cancel after the deadline set in the relevant cancellation policy. You should also not fail to make check-in possible, fail to pay, or break the host’s rules.
Being unresponsive: You should not have persistently and pervasively low ratings, be unresponsive during booking or throughout a Session, fail to provide an adequate point of contact for hosting, or refuse to participate in our resolution process.
Mediation
Popless may assist in the fair and timely resolution of a complaint or dispute between Users. Popless may take the following actions, including but not limited to:
Contact all Users involved to obtain information;
Review Project-related or user-provided data and correspondence captured on the platform and gathered through conversations with involved parties;
Request additional materials evidencing communications between the involved parties;
Coordinate mediation between the Users involved in the complaint or dispute;
Determine an appropriate outcome, including, but not limited to, User account deactivation, partial payment, payment refund, and/or project re-staffing;
Communicate the outcome to all involved parties; and
Promptly carry out the mediation outcome.
Popless expects all Users to cooperate with any investigations or other activities by Popless in furtherance of the above procedures. If Popless temporarily or permanently deactivates a User’s account, the User is prohibited from creating a new account under his or her name, a fake or borrowed name, or the name of any third party, even if he or she is acting on behalf of the third party. In addition to temporarily or permanently revoking a User’s access to the Popless Platform, Popless reserves the right to any other remedies available under applicable law.
